Online Learning FAQs
What equipment do I need, and how do I set it up?
You will need a computer/laptop, tablet or smartphone equipped with a broadband internet connection (or very strong, reliable 4G signal). Please ensure your device is fully charged or plugged in before we start! You should ideally have a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed by other people, the TV or other distractions. Make sure that your camera and microphone are enabled, and position your screen so that your teacher has a clear view of you, including your hands, and you can comfortably see your teacher.
Are lessons recorded?
I will not record online lessons, except in special circumstances and with written consent from the student and/or their parent. I ask that you do not record lessons without first gaining my consent, and any sharing of lesson recordings in part or whole anywhere online is expressly forbidden.
What records are kept?
Lesson notes are recorded via MyMusicStaff, and can be accessed via the student portal.
What happens if I have technical problems?
I am pretty tech savvy, but I’m not an IT specialist so cannot promise to be able to help with any issues at your end. If more than 50% of a lesson is severely impacted by technical issues such as poor signal, lag or similar problems out of our control, an appointment can usually be made to catch up at no further cost.
